Here are 7 ideas that you will surely love.

1. A private boat trip: Sea, Breeze and Laughter

Imagine your old man with a beer in his hand, the sun on his face and sailing around the Mediterranean. A trip on a sailing or motor yacht, with stops for a good swim and some snorkelling, is the perfect plan. If he’s looking for a little more adrenaline, a jet ski ride or a kayak to enjoy the coves, wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

2. Toast with good wine

If your father enjoys a good glass of wine, take him to a local winery. A wine tasting tour and some tapas of cured meats are a sure bet. Plus, he’ll learn a thing or two about local wines to brag about at the next family meal.

3. A walk in nature

If you are one of those who enjoy a good walk, there are spectacular routes along the Costa Blanca. From the Peñón de Ifach to the Sierra de Bernia, there are options for all levels. There is no better excuse to disconnect from the mobile phone and have a chat with father and son/daughter.

4. Eating like God

There’s nothing like a good meal to celebrate. A dinner in a restaurant with sea views, a tasting menu or a showcooking experience will make dad feel like a king. If he loves good food, you can’t go wrong with this.

If your dad likes excitement, surprise him with a hot air balloon flight or paragliding. The feeling of floating in the air and seeing the Costa Blanca from above is something he will never forget. Just make sure he is not afraid of heights.

6. A day of relaxation

If what they need is to unwind, give them a spa circuit with a massage included. A day of rest in a good spa can be just what they need to forget about stress and recharge their batteries.

7. A rural getaway

If you prefer something a little quieter, a getaway to a rural house in the interior of Alicante is a great option. A weekend in a relaxed environment, with good food and no rush, is a gift that will surely be appreciated.

History of Father Day

Father’s Day is much more than just a date on the calendar; it is a tribute to those who have guided, supported and taught us with unconditional love. Although its origin is ancient, its modern version began to gain strength in the 20th century. Today, each country commemorates it on different dates, but with the same purpose: to thank and celebrate those men who have been guides and examples in our lives. Father’s Day is celebrated on different dates throughout Europe, depending on the tradition and culture of each country. Below, we show you when and how this date is commemorated in different places on the continent:

  • Spain, Italy and Portugal: 19th of March. It is celebrated in honor of Saint Joseph, the father of Jesus, and is a holiday with strong religious influence.
  • France and Unitrd Kingdom: Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. Similar to the celebration in the United States, this date focuses on honoring fathers with gifts and family time.
  • Germany: Ascension Day is celebrated (forty days after Easter). Known as “Vatertag“, it is a holiday when many men go on excursions and celebrate outdoors.
  • Nordic Countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland): Second Sunday in November. In these countries, Father’s Day is celebrated on a different date to distinguish it from other family holidays.
  • Russia and some Easter Europe countries: 23rd of February. In Russia, Father’s Day is combined with “Defender of the Fatherland Day,” a day honoring all men, especially those who have served in the military.
