The cherry trees are in full bloom in Vall de Gallinera – Costa Blanca’s hidden spring paradise 🌸🍒
Did you know you don’t have to go to Japan to see cherry blossoms? Yes, on the Costa Blanca we have our own spring spectacle, and it’s amazing. If you like going out for a walk, eating well, and seeing something beautiful without it costing you an arm and a leg, you’ll like this. 😎
The Vall de Gallinera is known for its impressive cherry orchards. This natural haven is located in the Marina Alta region, in the north of the province of Alicante, and is made up of eight charming villages: Benirrama, Benialí, Benissivà, Benitaia, La Carroja, Alpatró, Llombai, and Benissili.
The cherries grown in the Vall de Gallinera are highly prized for their excellent flavor and high quality. They are protected by the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) “Cherries from the Mountains of Alicante,” a seal that certifies that they have been grown under strict regulations in specific areas of the provinces of Alicante and Valencia.

🗺️ Where does the magic happen?
In the Gallinera Valley / Vall de Gallinera—yes, the one between Pego-Atzubia and Planes—the fields burst with white and pink blossoms. Thousands of cherry trees, for a few days a year, make everything seem like a fairy tale. And the best part: we have it next door!
📆 When to go?
Take note: flowering usually occurs between March and April, but it depends on the weather. It only lasts a short time (about 10-15 days), so when they bloom… you have to get out of here like crazy!🏃♂️💨
When are cherries harvested?
The cherry harvest season in the Vall de Gallinera region typically starts mid-April and runs until the end of July. But be careful, these dates can vary depending on the weather each year.

👣 Great weekend plan:
- Take the car with the family
- Go to the Gallinera Valley (Vall de Gallinera)

- Take photos that not even your influencer cousin’s Instagram account could have dreamed of 📸
- And finish with a delicious home-cooked meal at a local bar 🍷
💡 Tips:
✔️ Check when they bloom before you go (Facebook or valley websites usually give you advance notice)
✔️ Go early if you don’t want to get stuck in traffic
✔️ Don’t touch the cherry trees or jump over the fences. They belong to the farmers, not fairground decorations!😉
